Talladega College Wins $40K in Home Depot Retool Your School Contest
Talladega, AL May 11, 2017: The old adage of “Never Quit & Never Give Up” came to fruition for the students of Talladega College. On Wednesday, May 10th, Talladega College was awarded $40K from Home Depot. Home Depot through its RETOOL YOUR SCHOOL initiative, benefits the nation’s treasured Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). A total of nine (9) grants were awarded this year: three (3) $50,000 grants, three (3) $40,000 grants and three (3) $30,000 grants. The Home Depot recognizes that many HBCUs sometimes struggle to make the necessary improvements to the campuses in the communities that they are a part of. With the grant awarded from the RETOOL YOUR SCHOOL program, schools are given an opportunity to make upgrades to their campuses. The program utilizes the Cluster System which assigns each accredited HBCU to one of three groups. Clusters assignments are divided based on the number of enrolled students at each school. Talladega College was assigned to the third Cluster which includes all HBCUs with enrollment up to 1,200 students.
Talladega College as part of its entry into this yearly contest previously submitted a project development outline. As a result of the award, the college will be able to implement much-needed improvements to the campus. Other cluster three winners included Wilberforce University ($50K) and LeMoyne-Owen College ($30K).
